Google Ads Management
Search advertising works when someone already wants what you sell. Most of the job is making sure your money only reaches those people.
The Google and YouTube work behind this page
Our clearest evidence is Yes Academy, where we built and managed 250+ paid campaigns across Google, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. Our service page for paid advertising is centred on Meta, and we say so plainly: Google Ads is a channel we have run at scale for that client and use where the offer fits it, not a separate specialist practice with its own team.
That matters when you choose a partner. If you need a business built entirely around search advertising, ask us what we would do and compare it with a specialist. If your problem sits between ads, content and a website that leaks, that is where we are more useful.
When Google Ads is a good first channel
| Your situation | Search ads are usually | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| People type your service into Google and want it soon | A strong first channel | The intent already exists. You pay to appear in front of it. |
| You are announcing something new that nobody searches for yet | A weak first channel | There is no search volume to capture. Social ads create the demand first. |
| Your average sale is small and competition is heavy | Risky | Click prices can eat the margin before the enquiry becomes a customer. |
| Enquiries arrive by phone and are answered within minutes | Often very good | Speed of reply is worth more than another point of click rate. |
How an account is structured
- One campaign, one question. A campaign for each service or each intent, so you can see which one earns its budget.
- Keywords chosen by intent, not by volume. "Repair" and "how to repair" are different customers. We separate them, and we write negative keywords early.
- The search terms report as a weekly habit. It is the fastest way to find money spent on people who were never going to buy.
- Ads that repeat the searcher’s words, sent to a page that continues the same promise. If the ad says one thing and the page another, the click was wasted.
- Conversions defined before spend. A form fill, a call over a set length, a WhatsApp tap. Whatever counts as an enquiry has to be recorded correctly, because bidding learns from it.
What the weekly report contains
Spend, enquiries, and what happened to the enquiries afterwards, in plain language. Then three things we changed, the reason for each, and what we will change next. If a search term report shows waste, it is in the report with the fix. If numbers look better than the enquiries you actually received, we say that too.
What we do not do
- We do not promise a cost per lead or a position on the results page. Auctions are shared with competitors and change weekly.
- We do not run campaigns without conversion tracking. If yours is broken, that is the first job. See conversion tracking setup.
- We recommend the account stays in your name, whoever runs it, with your own administrator access.
Keyword match types, in plain words
Google lets you tell it how loosely to interpret each keyword. Exact match shows your ad for searches that mean the same thing as the keyword. Phrase match allows extra words around it. Broad match lets Google decide what counts as related, which is convenient and, in a new account with little data, often expensive.
We would usually begin tighter than the platform suggests, look at the search terms that appear, and loosen only where the data shows real enquiries coming from the wider net. Starting broad and cleaning up later works for accounts with a large budget and plenty of conversion data. For a small local budget it tends to buy a lot of irrelevant clicks while the account learns.
| Match approach | Good when | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Exact and tight phrase | A new account, a modest budget, a clear list of services | Missing searches phrased in ways you did not predict |
| Phrase with negatives | You know the wording but want variations | Negative keyword lists that are never updated |
| Broad with conversion data | A larger budget, and reliable conversion tracking | Automation optimising toward the wrong conversion |
What a sensible first month looks like
- Week one: read and repair. Audit the account, check that enquiries are recorded, review locations and hours, and list the services in order of what they earn.
- Week two: restructure. Separate campaigns by intent, add negatives from the search terms report, and pair each group with a page that continues the promise.
- Weeks three and four: test. Two or three ad variations per group, judged on enquiries and not on the click rate alone.
- End of month: report. What was spent, what came back, what was changed, and what you should decide next.
Search, Performance Max and YouTube
Search campaigns catch people who are looking. Performance Max lets Google place your ads across its channels using the assets you supply. It can work well when conversion data is rich, and it can hide problems when it is not, because reporting is less transparent. YouTube reaches people earlier, before they search. We treat these as separate jobs with separate measures, and we do not mix a search conversion rate with a video view rate in the same report.
Questions we ask
- What happens after an enquiry arrives, and who is responsible for it?
- Is there any history of spend, and can we see it? Old data shows what has already been tried.
- Which services do you most want to sell, and which are the least profitable to win?
- Is the website able to receive traffic right now, and who can change it quickly?
- What would make you stop the campaign?
What we need from you
- Access to your Google Ads account, or agreement to create one in your name.
- Your service list, with the ones that earn the most listed first.
- What a good enquiry looks like, and roughly how many you can handle each week.
- The address of the page that ads will point to, and who can edit it.
