Retail Marketing
A retailer’s real question is not how many enquiries came in, but how many people walked in and bought. Marketing has to be built around that.
A retail saree brand
We ran structured paid and organic campaigns for a retail saree brand, which generated 2000+ leads and a lift in leads and sales. We have not published sales figures, the brand’s budget or the name, and we do not do so here. What follows is the thinking we would carry to another retailer.
From attention to the till
| Step | What to do | Common gap |
|---|---|---|
| See it | Clear photographs and short videos of the product | Dark or cluttered images |
| Enquire | A quick way to ask: message, call or form | A form that sends nowhere |
| Reply | A fast, friendly answer with options and prices | Silence for hours |
| Visit or order | A clear address, hours, and a way to reserve or order | Vague directions |
| Return | A way to remember them for the next season | No record of who came |
Paid and organic together
Organic content, such as reels of new stock, styling and behind-the-scenes, gives the shop a face and gives paid ads something to build on. Paid ads then reach people beyond your followers. Each supports the other, and the mix should be judged by enquiries and visits, not by likes. See Meta Ads management.
WhatsApp for retailers
Retail customers often want to see options before they visit. A tidy catalogue and a fast reply can turn an enquiry into a visit. See WhatsApp follow-up.
Store visits
Store visits are hard to attribute. Ask each new customer how they found you, record it, and compare it with campaign reports. Over a few months, the pattern shows which efforts bring customers, even without perfect tracking.
Offers that respect the customer
Constant discounts train customers to wait. Where possible, give reasons to visit that add value: a new collection, a styling session, a preview for regular customers. A clear, honest offer is easier to advertise and less damaging to margins.
What to show
- Real photographs of products in natural light, and on people.
- Short videos of new arrivals, and how items are worn or used.
- The store itself, so people recognise it when they arrive.
- The people who work there, since retail is personal.
Planning around festivals and seasons
Retail demand follows the calendar. Plan content and budgets ahead of the season, build interest before it starts and keep stock information accurate. Tracking your own past seasons is the best guide to what to expect next time.
A WhatsApp catalogue workflow
- Keep a tidy set of product photographs with names and prices.
- Reply to an enquiry with two or three options, not the whole catalogue.
- Ask when and where the customer would like to see the items.
- Offer to reserve, and confirm the time.
- After the visit, thank them and ask what they thought.
Connecting the shop and the screen
A poster or a bill with a QR code that opens a WhatsApp chat or a page connects the shop with your online presence. Change the code by season, so that you can tell which prompt brought people back.
Reading a season honestly
Compare each season with the same one last year, and note what you did differently. Even without perfect data, the pattern of offers, content and results across two or three seasons teaches more than any general advice.
